This easy road cycling loop leads from Lorüns through the Walgau to the lakes in the Galina area near Frastanz. The route follows the River Ill on mostly tarmac cycle paths through Bludenz, Nüziders and the villages of the Walgau. Galinasee and Nachbauersee are the scenic highlights of this 51.8-kilometre loop with around 140 metres of ascent.
The circular route starts at Alfenzbrücke in Lorüns. From here, it follows cycle paths and quiet roads downstream along the River Ill through Bludenz and Nüziders.
In the Walgau, the route passes through Ludesch, Thüringen and Bludesch. Between settlements, farmland and stretches alongside the Ill, the profile remains largely flat. It then continues via Schlins and Satteins towards Frastanz.
The Galina area is home to Galinasee and Nachbauersee. Both lakes, created from former gravel pits, are surrounded by riparian woodland and the Ill river landscape. This section also passes the outlet of the Walgau power plant.
On the return leg, the route runs through the Tschalenga Au and back across the Walgau towards Bludenz. It then follows the Ill once more to return to Alfenzbrücke in Lorüns.
As this is a circular route, you can also join it at other suitable points along the way.
