Short description

This easy cycling loop leads from Gisingen through the meadow landscape near Bangs to the gravel lakes of Alte Rüttenen. Quiet embankment paths, farmland and waterside scenery along the Rhine and Ill alternate throughout the ride. At 15.2 kilometres with around 80 metres of ascent, the route is ideal for a relaxed outing on a touring or gravel bike.

Route description

The route starts at V-Milch in Gisingen. It first follows the Alter Unterriedweg through open meadowland towards Bangs.

At Gasthof Stern, the route crosses Rheinstraße and follows the cycle path to the Bangs customs office. Just before the Rhine bridge, it turns left onto the path beside the river. The Rhine, the adjoining meadows and the wide expanse of the Ried shape this peaceful section.

The loop crosses the Ill via Illsteg and continues upstream along the Ill embankment. It later turns onto a descending path. At the next junction, the signs point towards Paspels and the gravel lakes.

The gravel lakes of Alte Rüttenen are the scenic highlight of the route. These former gravel pits lie in a landscape shaped by water and green spaces and offer an opportunity for a swim break on warm days.

The route then follows the red-and-white cycle-route signs back through the Rüttenen to Gisingen and the starting point.

As this is a circular route, you can also join it at other suitable points along the way.
