Cycling circuit from Feldkirch through Altenstadt, Gisingen, Nofels, Tosters and Tisis

This easy cycling circuit links Feldkirch town centre with the districts of Altenstadt, Gisingen, Nofels, Tosters and Tisis. Quiet side roads, short gravel sections and paths along the River Ill lead through varied urban and meadow landscapes. The route also circles two of Feldkirch’s distinctive local mountains, Ardetzenberg and Blasenberg.

The tour starts and finishes at the bus station in Feldkirch town centre.

By public transport

Bus stop at the start/finish: Feldkirch Busplatz. The stop is served by numerous town and regional bus routes.

Train station at the start/finish: Feldkirch railway station. From there, the bus station is only a few minutes away by bicycle.

By car

Leave the A14 at the Feldkirch-Frastanz exit, then follow signs towards Feldkirch town centre and Montforthaus.

Parking

The public Montforthaus car park is close to the starting point. Please observe current signs and local conditions.

The cycling circuit starts at the bus station in Feldkirch town centre. After passing through the cycle underpass, the route follows Fidelisstraße, Mutterstraße and Rebberggasse towards Altenstadt. At the no-entry sign, continue straight ahead and turn left onto the gravel Föhrenweg shortly before the railway barrier.

After the railway underpass, cross Kapfstraße and follow Groxstraße onto a narrow shared footpath and cycle path. It crosses Torkelgasse and joins Bifangstraße. Quiet residential streets lead onwards to Hämmerlestraße and then along the footpath and cycle path to the River Ill.

Immediately after the bridge over the Ill, turn left onto the gravel riverside path. The river, strips of alluvial woodland and open land shape this peaceful section between Gisingen and Nofels. After a hedge, a short path descends to Illstraße.

The route continues through Nofels and towards Tosters via Steinbruchgasse, Schregenbergstraße and Wolfgangsstraße. At the junction with Untersteinstraße, continue straight ahead before turning left onto Riedteilweg and later right onto Böschenmahdstraße.

After crossing Werdenbergstraße, another gravel path leads through the open meadow landscape. Turn left onto Riedweg towards Tisis. Beyond the unguarded railway crossing, turn left and follow Grißstraße. At the Tisis football ground, turn right onto a gravel path.

Return towards the town centre via Josef-Mähr-Straße, Wolf-Huber-Straße, Proßwaldenweg and Carinagasse. At Pruggergasse, turn left onto Liechtensteiner Straße. After crossing the Ill on Heilig-Kreuz Bridge, the final section leads back to the bus station.

Parts of the route follow narrow shared footpaths and cycle paths as well as short gravel sections. Adjust your speed to the surface and be considerate of pedestrians.

Take particular care when crossing busier roads. Only cross the unguarded railway crossing in the Tisis area after checking carefully in both directions.

After rain, the gravel paths may be slippery or soft. Observe current construction work, diversions and local information.

A trekking bike, touring bike or gravel bike is particularly suitable for the short gravel sections.

The largely flat circuit is suitable for leisure cyclists and families with experienced children. Be aware of short gravel sections and several road crossings.

The route runs mainly on paved side roads and shared footpaths and cycle paths, with several short sections on gravel tracks.
