At the Swiss border, the route turns south and follows the Ill-Rhine cycle route on asphalt and short gravel sections to the Old Rhine. It then heads north again across the flat Rhine Valley towards Dornbirn.
In the Haselstauden district, the climbing section begins. A quiet road gains around 300 metres to Alberschwende. From there, the route turns towards Buch. Above the Bregenzer Ache gorge, the descent leads to Wolfurt. Following the Bregenzer Ache, the route returns to Bregenz.
