Bregenzerwald

Tradition and design, wooden structures and architecture, rural life and internationally acclaimed craftsmanship come together harmoniously in the region of the Bregenzerwald. A great deal has already been written about alpine cheese from the Bregenzerwald, so we won’t expound. The best thing to do is to try it for yourself. On your walk to the village alpine dairy, don’t forget to take a detour to the Werkraumhaus in Andelsbuch, and to the Women’s Museum in Hittisau. Both institutions can slightly change your impression of the world, and wouldn’t that be a good thing?

  • On marked paths through the traditional villages, the Umgang Bregenzerwald exemplarily depicts how to successfully unite the valuable from the past with the zeitgeist.
  • The region’s best craftsmen display their understanding of quality and design in the Werkraum Haus in Andelsbuch.
  • The old steam engine of the “Wälderbähnle” is enough to raise the spirits just by sounding its loud signal – it isn’t that often you get to travel between Bezau and Andelsbuch in such a comfortable fashion.
  • The first women’s museum in Europe is located in Hittisau, and explains history from a female point of view.
