Brief description

Walser Omgang hike - Find your way. A regenerating half-day route

Approach

Most arrival routes from Germany converge in Ulm and continue on the A7. At the Allgäu motorway triangle, take the A980 section to the Waltenhofen junction and on the four-lane B19 via Sonthofen and Oberstdorf into Kleinwalsertal. From Austria (Vorarlberg) and Switzerland, you can reach Kleinwalsertal via the Bregenzerwald (Hittisau) - Riedbergpass - Fischen - Oberstdorf. Coming from Tyrol, the fastest way is via the A7 to Kempten and then on the B19 towards Oberstdorf. A motorway vignette is not required for the drive into the valley.

Public transport

Simply leave your car behind!

It is possible to use the Walserbus for the approach. Bus line 1 serves the town of Riezlern. For this route, get off at the stop "Gemeindeamt".

Parking

Paid parking spaces directly at the starting point.

Directions

The path leads from the center of Riezlern over meadows and fields in the Zwerwald down to the Breitach and through forest and clearings (sulfur spring in the Höll, covered Leidtobel bridge and Leidtobel chapel "Maria hilf") to Hirschegg. In the village center of Hirschegg, take the Heuberg chairlift to the panorama route, which repeatedly offers views of the mountain range from Söllereck up to Widderstein including the Wildental and Gemstel valleys. Entry to Mittelberg is possible via the Zaferna chairlift. Passing the Stutzalpe, it goes down to the Baader high path, which ends at the mountain church St. Martin in Baad. Now, following the Breitach, it returns to Mittelberg, Hirschegg or Riezlern.
