Himmelstreppe: Ways into Wildpark Feldkirch

This short walk, featuring numerous flights of steps, leads from central Feldkirch up the Ardetzenberg via the Himmelstreppe and Weinbergstiege. After the energetic climb, the route continues along quiet roads to Wildpark Feldkirch. Walking to the wildlife park is environmentally friendly and keeps the parking spaces on Ardetzenweg available for those who need them.

The walk starts at Volksbank Vorarlberg on Churerstraße. Right at the beginning, two slightly offset flights of steps follow one another in quick succession, leading uphill. Known as the Himmelstreppe, they form the first and most strenuous section of the route.

The route then follows Weinberggasse for a short distance to the Weinbergstiege. More steps lead uphill until the path rejoins Weinberggasse.

From there, the walk continues along Weinberggasse to Ardetzenweg. Follow this road to Wildpark Feldkirch, the destination of the walk. The many steps make this short route particularly appealing to sporty walkers.

We recommend travelling to the starting point by public transport. The start at Volksbank Vorarlberg, Churerstraße 1, is just a few minutes’ walk from central Feldkirch.

Public transport

Bus stop at the start: Feldkirch Busplatz or Feldkirch Katzenturm

Railway station: Feldkirch railway station. From there, various local and regional bus services run to Feldkirch Busplatz or Feldkirch Katzenturm.

For the return journey, after descending into the town centre, you can again use the stops at Feldkirch Busplatz or Feldkirch Katzenturm.

By car

Via the A14, take either the Feldkirch/Frastanz or Feldkirch-Nord exit, depending on your direction of travel. Then follow the signs towards the town centre and Feldkirch Busplatz. A valid motorway vignette is required to use Austrian motorways.

Parking

Paid parking is available at the Busplatz underground car park, Hirschgraben 4. The starting point is just a few minutes away on foot. The charges and regulations displayed on site apply.

For this walk, we recommend suitable equipment: a walking rucksack, sturdy, comfortable footwear, clothing appropriate for the weather, trekking poles if required, sun and rain protection, food and sufficient drinking water, a first-aid kit, a mobile phone, etc.

The numerous steps may be slippery in wet conditions or when covered with leaves, snow or ice. Sturdy footwear and a careful pace suited to the conditions are therefore important.

Parts of the route follow roads. Walkers should watch out for traffic and keep to the side of the road wherever possible.

Suitability:

The walk is suitable for sporty walkers, meditation enthusiasts and children aged eight and over. Due to the numerous steps, the route is not wheelchair-accessible and is unsuitable for pushchairs.
