Auf dem Weg zur Gaudenzaalpe

Alpine Pasture Hike l Amerlugalpe - Saminatal from Frastanz

Alpine hike with a magnificent view of the border region Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria and Germany. The forested Samina valley and the prominent rocks of the Drei Schwestern (three sisters) above Amerlügen characterize this tour. The Feldkircher hut and the Amerlugalpe are the tour’s highest points. From up here you have a great 360° degree view.

There are several points for rest and refreshment on this round trip. The Feldkircher Hütte (Naturfreundehaus) at the beginning of the ascent through the forest is the first. At the Amerlugalpe you have a stunning view of Lake Constance, the Swiss Alps and the Arlberg region. The Alpine Pasture is only farmed during early summer – roughly until the end of June when the team of the Amerlugalpe (Vorderälpele) moves to Sarojaalpe (Hinterälpele) where they remain until mid-September. At the Sarojaalpe the Egender family serves delicious treats from their farm: homemade bread and cake, bacon, sausages, brawn, mountain and cream cheese as well as drinks. You can also shop mountain cheese and other alpine dairy products. The Gaudenzaalpe is only open on Sundays and provides hikers with sour and cream cheese, traditional snacks and drinks.

Author tip

The hike to the Gaudenzaalpe (there and back), that is only open on Sundays, takes roughly 30 minutes.

During a hot summer day you can cool off in the Samina creek (it’s a 30 minute hike from Amerlügen to the creek).

If you are up for a challenge, you should hike up the «Drei Schwestern» mountains (the climb requires appropriate equipment). The tour takes an additional 2.5 hours (5,6 km and 650 meters in altitude).
