Schlins, Jagdberg castle ruins

Jagdberg Castle is the ruin of a medieval hilltop castle near Schlins in Vorarlberg.

Jagdberg Castle became the property of the Habsburgs at the end of the 14th century. Before that, however, it served as the headquarters of the Counts of Montfort-Feldkirch. Remains of a prehistoric settlement can also be found at this site. However, it is still unknown when it was built. Until its final decline around 1750, the fortified complex was repeatedly the victim of attacks - it was destroyed, rebuilt and extended. It underwent one last reconstruction at the beginning of the 20th century: a swimming pool was built in the courtyard of the ruins by today's Jagdberg Regional Youth Center. Today, the picturesque ruin serves as a stage for open-air events in many a summer.
